Transferring ownership of your developer product is a significant action that affects both you, applicable developer team members, and any applications you or your team manages. This guide will walk you through the process and important considerations.
Before You Start
Only the current owner of a developer product can request an ownership transfer. Team members cannot initiate transfer requests on behalf of the owner.
⚠️ Note: If your developer team owns verified applications, transferring ownership will require removing verification from those applications. The new owner will need to reapply for verification after the transfer is complete.
What You'll Need
Submitting a request to Developer Support: https://dis.gd/developer-support/teams-and-ownership is only required for Verified Apps or Teams that own Verified Apps. Before submitting a transfer request, gather the following information:
- App ID of the application involved in the transfer
- Team ID of the developer team you want to transfer
- User ID of the person who will receive ownership
- Reason for the transfer
- Consent from the person receiving ownership
The Transfer Process
Step 1: Dual-Party Consent Required
After the current owner requests a transfer, Discord requires consent from the recipient before any ownership transfer. Both parties have 30 days to respond to our requests.
- If either party says no or doesn't respond within 30 days, the transfer request will be denied.
Step 2: Verification Removal
Once consent is reached, if your team owns any verified applications, we'll need to:
- Remove verification from all applications owned by the team
- Delete any associated identity verification information
- Allow the new owner to reapply for verification after the transfer
Step 3: Transfer Execution
Once both parties consent and verification is removed (if applicable), the transfer will be processed through Discord's Developer Portal.
Submitting Your Request
To request a developer team ownership transfer:
- Contact Discord Support through our support form
- Select the appropriate category for developer product ownership transfers
- Provide all required information listed above
- Wait for our response with next steps
Moving Applications to Your Team
Individual to Team Transfer
If you currently own verified applications individually and want to transfer them to your team:
- Ensure your team has completed identity verification
- Navigate to your application settings
- Go to the "General Information" section
- Look for the "Transfer App to Team" option below
- Select your team as the new owner
- Confirm the transfer
⚠️ Important: Transferring verified applications to a team may require re-verification if the team doesn't have up-to-date identification on file. For verified applications, you'll need to reach out to Developer Support for assistance.
Important Limitations
Account Standing Requirements
We cannot process ownership transfers unless all team members are in good account standing, all applications owned by the team are in good standing, and none of the applications are currently banned or suspended.
Recent Activity Restrictions
Please note that ownership transfers are limited to one request per developer product within a 90-day period. Additionally, if there have been recent account compromise inquiries, your transfer request may be delayed or prevented until those issues are resolved.
Special Circumstances
If you're unable to access your account due to issues like 2FA lockout, additional verification steps may be required. Contact support for guidance on these situations.
What Happens After Transfer
Once the transfer is complete:
- Ownership changes immediately in the Developer Portal
- The new owner gains full control of the team and its applications
- Previous verification is removed (if applicable)
- The new owner can reapply for verification when ready
Common Issues and Solutions
Transfer Requirements
When transferring applications to a team:

- The transfer process may take some time to complete
Verification Concerns
If you're concerned about losing verification status:
- Complete team identity verification before transferring
- Plan transfers during low-activity periods
- Have re-verification documentation ready
If you have questions about the transfer process or encounter any issues, please review our developer documentation for additional guidance or contact Discord Support through our support form. Please allow up to 48 hours for an initial response during business days.
