How long do I have to verify my ID?
If you need to re-verify your ID, you have 60 days to do so. You will need to do this every 3 years going forward.
Why do I need to do this?
Discord uses Stripe to verify your identity. Your data is only stored for 3 years as per Stripe's data retention policy.
What happens if I don't verify my ID in time?
Your apps will lose their verification status and you will have to apply for verification again
How will I know if i need to re-verify my ID?
You will receive an email and system DM about it. You may see the banner in the dev portal before you get the system message as it will take some time for everyone to get the message.
If the app is on a team, who is notified?
If on a team, all current team members will be notified, but the owner is the one who needs to re-verify their ID.
Do I need to go through the entire app verification process again?
No, you only need to re-verify your ID. However, if you fail to do this within 60 days your app will lose verification status and you will need to go through the entire app verification process again.
What if the team owner is inactive or I no longer have access to my account?
Ultimately it is up to each app owner and developer team owner to maintain access to their Discord account, as per our TOS. You should reach out to support for account help if needed, but this does not change the 60 day time frame for re-verifying your ID, which can thus result in losing app verification status (and, if applicable, the Early Verified Developer Badge) if not re-verified in time.
Our Developer Support team can transfer the ownership of developer products away from inactive or deleted accounts in a variety of cases. If you need support transferring your app or team's ownership, please reach out to us here.
How does this impact the Early Verified Bot Developer badge?
The Early Verified Bot Developer badge does require the app to stay verified. If verification status is removed from the app, the badge will be removed from your account. Furthermore, there is no way to get this legacy badge back.
Where do I verify my identity if I am a team owner?
You'll still go through Stripe, and you can see the notification on the team page.
Do I have to use the same ID I used to verify my identity last time?
You can use a different ID. Stripe is asking you to re-verify because they no longer have that data as per their data retention policy.
I see a green checkmark on Stripe but Discord is showing an error. What does that mean?
Stripe likely said the submission was successful. That just means it uploaded correctly, but maybe wasn't accepted. If you still see this after a few minutes, try again with better lighting or a clearer photo.
I still have questions about my very specific situation. Who do I contact?
You can start with Discord Developer Support. Please be patient as we are receiving an influx of tickets right now. Remember, you have plenty of time, 60 days, to re-verify your identity.
